Trail Of Horror

WP_20151023_018Halloween is a favorite time for the Nomads, especially the Nomad Sons. Mama Nomad is not so keen for All Hallows Eve celebrations. But the guys are. Last year, we kicked off the Halloween season by going to Zombiefest in Lakeland to walk among the dead, then proceeded to the Old Town Fright Festival to scare others and take in a Thriller Dance and we culminated with Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, the biggest celebration of Halloween in the United States.

With so many high-caliber events that we were able to experience last year, the bar was set pretty high. So, when we went looking for Halloween type things to do in our region of Connecticut, we did not have our hopes up too high.

The Nomad Boys looked through the newspaper and saw an attraction called the Trail of Horror.

The picture, in The Lyme Times, showed some kids dressed as zombies with some corn stalks (see image right from their website). We were not scared of kid zombies, but the boys wanted to give it a try. And boy oh boy were we ever surprised.

We thought we were going to come to some kind of corn stalk maze with kid zombies trying to scare us. That would be a big fat nope!

First of all, let me tell you that this is put on at someone’s house. This is the fifth year that they have done it. They accept food donations that are given to the Waterfood Food Bank or monetary donations that are given to the Waterford Animal Shelter. So, this is not even produced for revenue!

Again, this is someone’s home. You show up and park on the street. There are creepy figures scattered around out front and Halloween decorations everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE. You walk down the driveway and enter the front door of their house. This is where some volunteers take your donations, write your name down and you wait for a guide. You read that correctly, they give you a guide.

I do not want to spoil all of the surprises, so I will give you a high level overview. You wander through their home encountering children with knives through their heads, skeletons, creatures holding decapitated heads and more. When you exit the home, you will encounter a corn maze, woman chopped in half, a delightful Dracula and dancing witches, ghosts, ghouls, goblins and scary creatures at every turn, a tour though a graveyard and a fortune-teller. Not to mention the young lady that followed us the entire time whose face had a zipper on it that was 1/2 way unzipped. We tried to get her to say something or smile. We were unsuccessful. Kudos to her!

When we got to the end, we unanimously agreed that this was the best haunted event put on at a home that we had EVER been to. We could not believe the levels they went to in detail and imagination just to try to get food for the food bank and money for the animal shelter.

If you are in the Quaker Hill, Connecticut area or driving distance to it within an evening, you should take a moment and visit the Trail of Horrors. It is located at 2 Old Barry Rd, Quaker Hill, Connecticut. If you do go, tell them the Nomads sent you. Safe Travels.
