The last weekend of September 2015 was a weekend of Water Fire and Blood. On Saturday the 26th we went to Providence, Rhode Island to experience Water Fire. Then on the 27th, we went nowhere. That’s right! We stayed at our home base. Why? Glad you asked. We wanted to watch the blood moon.
On September 27, 2015, an event called a blood moon happened. A blood moon is also known as a total lunar eclipse. In plain language, this happens when the Earth is between the sun and the moon. The Earth essentially blocks out the sun’s light from shining on the moon. When it does, the moon can take on a reddish hue.
So, why was this one so special? Because it happened during a super moon. I know what you are thinking. What is a super moon. This is when the moon is full and is also at its closest point in relation to distance from the earth. This makes the moon look much larger. So, we had a super moon combined with a total lunar eclipse at the same time. This has only happened 5 times since 1900 and will not happen again until 2033.
We built a fire in the chiminea that was located on the deck of our Connecticut home base. We have the ocean shimmering in the background and the full super moon overhead. We spent the evening talking by the fire and watching this wonderful astronomical event take place. Being able to experience an event with your family that happens once or twice in a lifetime is priceless. And being able to do it from the comfort of our deck with such a beautiful environment around us made it even better. We enjoyed the Super Blood Moon experience and I hope we can get together in 2033 to experience it again. I hope you were able to see it in your corner of the world. Safe Travels.
