The Badlands of South Dakota were an amazing sight to see; the formations of rock, added with the mix of different colors made you feel like you were in a wonderful painting.
Wildlife is not clearly visible often, but, the Nomad Family was able to catch looks at prairie dogs in their village, mountain goats, and some birds flying high in the air. You have to keep in mind that these creatures are wild animals not petting zoo pets.
Some other wildlife you may come across are rattlesnakes and buffalo, both of which you should have caution towards because rattlesnakes are poisonous, and buffalo can and will outrun you.
If you ever intend to go to the South Dakota Badlands, I have a few recommendations for you.
The first, is to wear hiking boots, or other types of shoes that are designed for tough terrain if you plan on hiking and climbing around like the Nomads; but you also have to keep in mind that the rocky hills are not as strong as they appear. Now, there are concrete paths that you would be fine walking in flip flops or tennis shoes, and you will still be able to enjoy the scenery. But if you intend on climbing on the rocky hills, bring tough terrain shoes.
Next, you will need to watch out, and be aware of wildlife; there are rattlesnake signs just about everywhere, and they’re not just there for decoration, so I advise that you pay close attention to your surroundings. Granted, the Nomad Family didn’t see any rattlesnakes, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t, so stay alert.
You will also need lots of water to stay hydrated if you go to the South Dakota Badlands; the Nomad family went to the South Dakota Badlands in the summer, but water should always be one of your key parts of traveling no matter the season.
Lastly, if you do go to the South Dakota Badlands in the summer, and you’re someone who burns easily in the sun, I highly advise that you monitor your time in the sun, because it is unyielding and should be taken in doses.
Now that you know the dos and don’ts of the South Dakota Badlands, I hope you will venture out there someday, and give that amazingly beautiful scenery a look.
