It is that time of year. When the school year is coming to an end, those who are still in school are going on summer vacation and another round of hopeful seniors finish high school and graduate.
As many of you know, we have home schooled two of our little Nomaditos almost all of their lives and our youngest has never gone to public school at all. Nonetheless, just because they are not in public school does not mean they do not graduate. And, in some parts of the country, there are large home school graduation ceremonies where home school groups band together and perform a formal ceremony with diploma and everything.
This year our very own Noah Barfield is among those hopeful graduates. That’s right. On May 24th we went through our very first graduation with our eldest son. We are so proud of him. He hit all of his required credits and added a ton of college level courses while still in high school. In addition, he worked on and published his first novel all at the same time.
Since we were no where near any of the home school groups that were banding together to perform formal ceremonies, we celebrated in our own way. The graduate woke up to a home filled with congratulatory and graduation decorations.
This was followed by a graduation cake (wow was it delicious) and accompanied by cards and gifts from me and Mama Nomad, his brothers and his grandparents (who were visiting us).
Then the sugar crash came in and some of us…eh ehm…fell asleep. I guess the excitement combined with cake was just too much for Noah and Mama Nomad.
At the end of the day, this was all topped off by visiting a little hole in the wall restaurant, in a town with a few thousand people. The owner came out, spoke to our boys, liked their manners and respectful nature enough to complement us and culminated with him giving Noah his meal for free.
Another chapter in his life closes and a brand new one opens. I can’t wait to see the story that he will write for himself. The whole family loves and is proud of you. Congraduations Noah! Safe Travels.
