Snow Days

snow day4The youngest Nomad son, and I have been wanting some major snow in a major way. Well, Virginia delivered, and she delivered BIG this week. The snow started falling on Monday, and it came down all day. It was beautiful, and so peaceful to watch. Then waking up Tuesday morning, and seeing everything covered; oh, that’s the best part to me. It was absolutely stunning. We were looking forward to these snow days.

The younger two Nomad sons could not wait to get out , and play in the snow. The oldest Nomad son, being more like myself, preferred to enjoy it from the warmth of the house. While Noah enjoyed reading inside by the fire, Ethan, and Trevor were off to the frozen river. Down by the river, they built themselves a fort. They were very excited Tuesday to get back down to the river to see if their fort kept out the snow. I must say, the fort did a pretty good job.

Before they ran down to check on their fort, they had a “little” snowball fight. Then off to the river they went. The fort was a success with only a spattering of snow on the bottom.

After their examination of the fort, Ethan, and Trevor were ready to find a way to tacsnow day1kle the hill in our yard. Now what to use for some sliding enjoyment?? Since we were living in the Austin, TX area before we began Living Nomad Style, sleds were not something we had; there’s barely any snow in that area of The Lone Star State. What we did have though were boogie boards. So, those would have to do. I have to admit, they were not as successful as we were hoping. Something different will have to be tried next time we have a snow day. After each having a few goes at snow boogie boarding, and being out for several hours, they were ready to come inside to warm up by the fire, and have some homemade hot chocolate. Not before stopping to make some snow angels though.

  1. Love the Shenandoah, used to camp there all the time! Glad to see you guys are enjoying your time there.

  2. Loved all of it…..glad you got to enjoy some snow!!!!!

  3. Oh! That’s exactly what we do! We have boogie boards, but not sleds, so they use those just like your boys. 🙂 In fact, we’re headed out to do that right now…

    • Yvie – We found that the boogie boards have too much friction. So, we went back to the drawing board and came up with a better solution. It worked and we are writing a post on it today. It should be available by this evening. What were your results?
