Krav Maga

Although traveling to new places and seeing new things is very exciting, there can be some inherent dangers from the population. This is true whether you are in the US or outside of the US. So, in an effort to help mitigate some of those dangers, we have always advocated for situational awareness. This is knowing your surroundings and current situation. We actually practice various scenarios so that the whole family is informed of what to do in various situations and we constantly call attention to pay attention to the details of where we are.

In order to complement situational awareness, we also advocate for the practice of self-defense. I have had some self-defense training as has Noah. But, you can never be too practiced or too prepared. Me and the boys have watched many different documentaries and videos on various fighting styles. One of them that we wanted to explore is called Krav Maga. Why Krav Maga? It is essentially supposed to train and prepare you for worst case scenarios.

Wikipedia has a good description of it:

Krav Maga (“contact combat”) is a self-defense system developed for the military in Israel that consists of a wide combination of techniques sourced from boxing, judo, KAPAP, and wrestling along with realistic fight training. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and its extremely efficient and brutal counter-attacks.

When we arrived in the Poconos in Pennsylvania, Mama Nomad found out that they were teaching Krav Maga at the local Community Center. So, we inquired and decided to try it out. Our youngest Nomad was too young to train. But Ethan and Noah were old enough to do so. We have attended twice now and, from what the boys say, they will continue to take it for as long as we are here and will look for it in our next destinations.

We are pleased they enjoy it and it gives them some critical self-defense skills to help keep them, our family and their future families safe. Safe Travels.
