Battle of Pea Ridge

Pea Ridge CollageFLASHBACK FRIDAY ~ 2009

In memory of the Battle of Pea Ridge, AKA Battle of Elkhorn Tavern, fought March 7-8 in 1862; where 26,000 men fought, and over 3,000 were killed, captured or wounded. Pea Ridge was fought in order to determine the fate of Missouri in the Civil War.

We visited the Pea Ridge National Military Park in Arkansas almost 6 years ago. This was a fascinating, as well as humbling, place to visit. We love to be outdoors, and we love to learn. Pea Ridge is a great place for both. The park is 4,300 acres with trails all around the battlefield, and boasts education not only in the visitor center and museum, but throughout the battlefield.

Make sure to check out the park’s official website for more information, as well as operating hours and fees; http://www.nps.gov/peri/index.htm
