A Grimm Detour In Portland

On our way back from Seattle, we had to come through Portland to get back to home base. The Nomad Men of the family are all fans of a TV show called Grimm. It is a modern-day spin on the old Grimm’s Fairy Tales. And, you may have guessed it, Portland is the filming location for the show. So, we decided to do a Grimm detour in Portland.

The show has been on for 5 seasons. So, needless to say, they filmed in a lot of locations. We decided to focus in on the homes of the main characters and a few more well-known buildings and locations in the show. We planned on finding Nick Burkhardt’s house (the main character), Monroe’s house (main supporting character), The Spice Shop and the park where the Red Riding Hood episode started. Let me tell you, trying to find the addresses for these places was not easy. But, we found three out of the four places. We could not find the Spice Shop. And, by the time we got to the park (last on our list) it was already dark. It does get dark by 4:30pm here.

On the positive side, we did find both Nick’s and Monroe’s houses. Seeing them in person was worth the expedition. Fun fact, Nick’s house is actually occupied by a family. They contracted to let them shoot inside during the first season and that was about it. And, Monroe’s house is empty.

Anyway, to any of you who are Grimm Fans, you will find this cool. If you are in Portland and want to check out some of these locations, I would suggest you make a plan, research the locations and plan your routes before you go. It is definitely not something you want to just do by the seat of your pants if you intend on visiting many locales before sundown. Safe Travels.
