A Cabin in West Virginia

When we were finishing up our stay in Virginia, I was really sad to leave. There was still so much to see in our Nation’s Capitol, and surrounding areas, that I wanted to extend our stay. Our Virginia house already had bookings following our exit. (Of course it did; it was adorable. Check it out here). This left me searching for a new place to stay in the area. I wasn’t having a lot of luck finding anything in the Shenandoah Valley; so I broadened out my search. Long story short, we ended up in a cabin in West Virginia; located in the panhandle in an adorable little town called Berkeley Springs.

If you’ve been following us, you’ve already seen the great places we got to explore while staying in West Virginia. Such as our hikes on the C and O Canal Trail, and the Appalachian Trail; more visits into DC, as well as our visit to Gettysburg, and Mount Vernon. If you’re new, and haven’t seen all these great adventures, make sure to click back through, and check them out.

It’s true, everything happens for a reason, and finding this darling cabin deep in the mountains of West Virginia was kismet. It is the perfect getaway place. From my first encounter with the owner, I knew this place would be a good one. The owner, Sam, is kind, and helpful. His caretakers for the cabin (Larry, and Debbie) were our neighbors, and they are wonderful. Any questions we had were immediately answered. Anything that we needed was immediately taken care of. The whole experience was fabulous.

When I was reading through the comments about the home, I saw the driveway mentioned a couple of times. Not necessarily as a problem, just not something that maybe every car could make it up in every kind of weather. This caused a little concern for me because we would have to get our trailer up the driveway. When I voiced my concerns to the homeowner, Sam, he calmed them immediately (he makes it up the drive in a Prius), and then offered for us to visit the cabin before our stay to make sure it would work out for us. There was only a couple of hours between our Virginia house to the West Virginia cabin. So, on a beautiful Sunday, Daddy Nomad, and I took a drive to check it out. With about 7 practice runs, Daddy Nomad was confident he could maneuver Ebony, and our trailer up the driveway. Without our trailer, the driveway would have been no concern to us, what-so-ever. I have to admit, on the day of our arrival, all 5 Nomads held their breath as we made our way up to the cabin; with a collective release once we reached the top.

Staying in this place was a dream. The views from every slider, and window of the house were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. We were either looking out at woods or mountains. Some days after a storm, we’d even have clouds surround us. It was stunning, and so relaxing. I felt like I was living in the trees. Not another house in sight; perfect seclusion. There were other neighbors around, just none that could be seen from the cabin. The area is mostly inhabited by weekenders or vacationers; not many full-timers.

The cabin is perfectly stocked for visitors. The kitchen has everything; just bring your food. There’s plenty of towels, and sheets for all of the beds; you only need your toiletries. It is nicely decorated, and very comfortable. When we arrived, it was spotless, and ready for our enjoyment.

There’s a basement with a door that leads outside with a concrete patio area. Also, in the basement, is a huge storage area that also houses the washer, and dryer. This storage area was great for us to store our bins in after we unpacked. We used the basement for two things; a game room for board, and card games because there’s a table down there, and also as one of the bedrooms by folding out the futon to use as a bed.

The main level of the house is almost all surrounded by deck, and has patio furniture to be able to enjoy the view. It was utilized a lot during our stay. This level also has one of the bathrooms, a bedroom, the living room, dining room, and kitchen area. This bedroom has full size bunks that were perfect for a couple of the nomad boys. The older two boys enjoy their own space, so they alternated who would get the basement room, and who would share. Our littlest nomad loves to share space, and be with someone all the time.

The upstairs of the house is the master suite; comfy queen bed, private bath, as well as sliders with decks on each side of the room. Wonderful views every single morning. I never got tired of it. It was as breathtaking the day we left, as the day we arrived.

Is this a place I would stay again? YES! Would I recommend it to you? YES! It’s a perfect retreat. If you want a private getaway from hustle, and bustle; this is it. The cabin. The woods. The mountains. The views. All of it. If you’re interested in enjoying a little peace, and relaxation in the hills of West Virginia, then this is the place for you.
